Jie Ming students awarded Confucius Institute Progress Award for study of Chinese language, culture
Students at Jie Ming Mandarin Immersion Academy recently received the Confucius Institute Progress Award during a ceremony at the University of Minnesota. The Minnesota Department of Education and Confucius Institute of the University Minnesota held an award ceremony and reception on Oct. 10 at Ted Mann Concert Hall.

All Jie Ming fourth-grade students passed the Youth Chinese Test level 3 in May, and all received the Confucius Institute Progress Award, which celebrates achievements in their study of Chinese language and culture. Jie Ming students were invited to the ceremony along with hundreds of Chinese immersion students and Chinese language students statewide.

The Chinese Chicago Consul General handed out the awards. Brouke Brookins was the ambassador from Jie Ming.

For the first time, Saint Paul Public Schools students celebrated Indigenous Peoples Day on Oct. 12. The city of Saint Paul on Aug. 12 passed a resolution to rename the Columbus Day holiday to Indigenous Peoples Day. American Indian Magnet School (AIMS) and Harding Senior High School organized activities for the community to participate in the celebration.

Minnesota Vikings names Central's Scott Howell Coach of the Year
The Vikings Youth Football program recently paid a visit to Central High School to honor the school's football head coach, Scott Howell, as the Coach of the Year.

Battle Creek Middle School staff featured in 'I Am SPPS'

Last week “I Am SPPS” featured staff from Battle Creek Middle School who volunteered last summer helping students at a camp in Ferguson, Mo.:
