AVID students at Farnsworth Aerospace

Putting Academics on the same playing field as Athletics
On Sept. 10, Farnsworth Aerospace became the first middle school in Saint Paul to host an AVID signing day event. Signing Day was created to mirror the National Letter of Intent day, where student athletes sign with major colleges.

During the first signing day event, AVID students declared their commitment to the program by signing their student agreement. Their parents also signed a commitment to support their student. Eighty percent of the AVID students attended the ceremony and brought a parent or guardian to share in the joy of the evening.

This year Farnsworth has 56 AVID students. To commemorate the event, each student received a college t-shirt and a photo that was placed in their lockers as a reminder of their promise to graduate from college.
