Two SPPS teachers are finalists for Minnesota Teacher of the Year Award
Two Saint Paul Public Schools teachers have been named 2016 Minnesota Teacher of the Year finalists.

Juanita Ortiz, Latino culture teacher at Phalen Lake Hmong Studies Magnet, and Koua Yang, social studies teacher at Harding Senior High School, are among 11 teachers selected from the group of 34 semifinalists.

The finalists for the award were chosen by an independent selection panel of 23 leaders in the areas of education, business, government and nonprofit organizations. In all, there were 115 Minnesota Teacher of the Year candidates this year. The selection panel meets again on Saturday, May 14 to conduct individual interviews with the 11 finalists and cast votes for the 2016 Minnesota Teacher of the Year.
