From the Superintendent: Our Tentative Agreement: Improving Climate, Strengthening Support, Enhancing Engagement

By now you have heard that last Friday SPPS and the Saint Paul Federation of Teachers reached a tentative agreement on the 2015-2017 labor contract.

I want to thank everyone who participated in these negotiations for their hard work over many months, and especially for their perseverance in the last long hours leading up to the agreement. It was especially gratifying to have Board of Education Chairman Jon Schumacher and Board Directors John Brodrick and Steve Marchese in the room at the final negotiating session.

I look forward to sharing details of this agreement soon. While I cannot provide specifics yet, I can tell you they represent our shared belief that positive and nurturing school communities are essential for our students to thrive. This contract, if ratified, will strengthen our efforts to improve school climate, provide additional support to students and teachers, and enhance family engagement.

Now that we are moving beyond contract negotiations, I ask all of us to come together, united in our common goal -- a world class education for all our students.

Your very proud Superintendent,
