From the Superintendent: Gratitude and Wishing You a Great Winter Break

It is hard to believe, but we only have two days left with our students in 2015. Two days of learning, classroom celebrations and all around excitement until a much deserved winter break arrives.

The last few days before a break are often the most challenging times of the year. Many students are excited for all the family adventures that time away from school may bring. For others, 12 days off represent stress and anxiety. Our schools provide stability -- a guaranteed meal, consistency in an inconsistent world. I have no doubt that you will provide the needed love, routine and patience for our students during this shortened week. Your efforts will allow them to go into winter break with renewed resiliency and hope for the new year.

I want to offer my sincere gratitude for all you have done this first half of the school year. I thank you for your gentleness, your caring, your belief in the potential of our young people. For enlightening our students to the beauty and power of language, the mystery of numbers and the joy of science and the arts. For the countless, often times thankless, hours spent away from your own family as you plan and prepare to serve others. You are SPPS.

I wish you all a wonderful winter break and a peaceful beginning to 2016. I’ll see you back on January 4.

Your very proud Superintendent,
