From the Superintendent: Expressing Gratitude to Our Schools, Teachers, Students and Beyond

November is a month we focus on gratitude -- although some of the happiest people I know find things to be grateful for every day.

Among the many things for which I am grateful:

SPPS teachers and staff make our kids their top priority, day in and day out, evenings and weekends. You go the extra mile in so many ways. Whether it’s raising extra funds for special events, staying after school so a student can get caught up or simply being a trusted adult for our students, you are the reason so many of our students excel.

I am grateful for the many members of our Saint Paul community who give funds as well as their time to support our students. Many of our schools and programs rely on the generosity from our community partners. Later this month you will hear more about the annual Community Giving Campaign, which enables you to support your school (or another important service provider) with an easy payroll deduction.

I am grateful for the passion of our community to do what’s right for our students, including the citizens who step up to run for the Board of Education. Serving on the school board is often a thankless job -- it requires long hours and courage to make tough decisions.

Through all the busyness of November, I hope you find many reasons to be thankful.

Your very proud superintendent,
