Dear Colleagues:

I want to take a moment this week to recognize the people who have been working so hard on two very large SPPS initiatives: 1) Personalized Learning and distribution of iPads, and 2) planning the future of SPPS facilities.

More than 20,000 iPads sucessfully distributed to SPPS students and staff
This has been a Herculean effort on the part of too many people to count. Thank you to everyone who had a hand in making this possible. Special thanks to the Office of Personalized Learning for hours and hours of planning and implementation. You tailored this work to the needs of SPPS and we are very excited to see the results in our students’ learning.

Facilities Master Planning continues on schedule
Beginning this month, our schools will be developing 10-year facilities master plans to better serve the 21st century learning needs of students and educators. Each school is identifying a team composed of students, parents, teachers, staff, administrators and community partners to participate in two workshops, one in March and the other in May.

Please contact your school principal today if you would like to be part of this process or know of someone in your school who might be a good fit.

These planning sessions will build upon the work of the Facilities Master Plan Committee that has been hard at work over the past few months developing the district’s facility guiding principles. These principles will help school teams identify and prioritize their facility projects for the next decade.

I applaud our schools for taking part in this critical work, especially as personalized learning becomes a more authentic experience for all students. For more background on the Facilities Master Plan, please view this video and visit the Facilities Department’s website.

What a dedicated staff we have. Happy March, everyone.

Your very proud superintendent,
