From the superintendent

Dear Colleagues:

The halls and classrooms of Saint Paul Public Schools are well-known to you and me, but I think you’d be surprised at the sometimes negative misconceptions the general community has about what goes on inside our walls.

We have an opportunity again this next week to dispel the myths and showcase our schools when some 20 community members shadow SPPS principals for our annual School Leader for a Day program.

Business leaders, non-profit executives and community activists are just some of the people who signed up this year to spend one day in the shoes of an urban school principal. As always, I expect to hear from them about how impressed they are by all that our leaders and educators accomplish in a single day. I know I am.

Hopefully our principals will also have a little time during the day to overview our district’s plans for Strong Schools, Strong Communities 2.0. We are in the final two weeks of informational meetings with various stakeholders in anticipation of the March 18 Board of Education vote on the five-year plan. If you would like more information on 2.0, please go to

Finally, let me thank everyone again for all their work over our very difficult January and February. I hope with all my heart that we have had our last brutally cold or snowy day – but only time will tell.

Have a great week, everyone.

Your very proud superintendent,
