From the superintendent

Dear Colleagues:

Welcome to 2014! I hope you all had a restful winter break and were able to spend some much-needed time with your families and friends. I know very well how hard you work every day at Saint Paul Public Schools, so having the extra time to relax and unwind is definitely well-deserved.

I also hope you all enjoy the extra day at home tomorrow (Monday, January 6) due to Governor Dayton’s proclamation to close schools because of dangerously cold temperatures. Stay inside and stay warm!

Warm hearts are especially important when the temperature drops. When we must open our schools on bitterly cold days, remember that for too many of our students, school is the safest, warmest place to be, and sometimes their only chance for a hot meal. When we open our hearts to the needs of our most vulnerable students, it makes withstanding the cold that much easier.

Finally, I want to let you know that we wrapped up our Community Giving Campaign over our winter break and raised more than $145,000 for the charities that support our students and community. Thank you so much - you already give so much every day, and to see this level of generosity truly warms my heart.

I hope you all come back from the long weekend full of energy and ready to take on the second half of our year. Thank you for all that you do, and have a Happy New Year.

Your very proud superintendent,
