Take a stand against sitting
Researchers have linked sitting for long periods of time — such as behind a desk at work or behind the wheel — with a number of health concerns, including obesity and high blood pressure.

Get moving by standing rather than sitting whenever you have the chance. Here are a few ideas to get you moving:

  • Put a reminder in your calendar every 1-2 hours for a standing or walking break
  • Take every third call standing up
  • Schedule a walking meeting
  • If possible, walk or bike for your daily commute

Take a stand against sitting and participate in Walk/Bike to School Day on October 9! Bike/walk events foster academic achievement, improve student health, raise environmental awareness and build connections among families, schools and the larger community. 

Staff who take the pledge to walk or bike to work on October 9 will be entered in a drawing to win a prize courtesy of HealthPartners. Twenty winners will be drawn. If you live too far from work, you can still participate by pledging to walk or bike sometime that day.
