Tips on beating holiday stress
The holidays can be a wonderful time with family and friends, but they also can be stressful. Between shopping, party planning, entertaining and your everyday duties, stress levels can increase. Heightened stress can lead to overeating, moving less, losing sleep and feeling overwhelmed. Remember to take a deep breath, relax and enjoy.

Here are tips to help manage stress:

  • Make a budget and stick to it. It’s easy to overspend during the holidays. This year, set a budget that includes gifts, travel expenses and other holiday items. Track your spending as you make purchases so you know what you have left to spend.
  • Plan ahead. Schedule specific times for shopping, cooking, visiting friends and other holiday activities.
  • Learn to say no. It’s easy to feel pressured to accept every holiday invitation. If attending events becomes stressful, remember you can say no.
  • Stick to healthy habits. Have a healthy snack before holiday parties so you don’t overeat. Schedule time for adequate sleep and physical activity.
  • Make time for yourself. Take 15 minutes each day to relax. You can stretch, read a book, daydreamor listen to music. Do something you enjoy!
  • Mark your calendar for exercise. Exercise can help raise your spirit, calm your nerves, curb your appetite, improve sleep and maintain your weight.
