Racial Equity Update
Operations and non-classified leadership participated in the first of four racial equity development workshops designed just for them on October 18. The seminar was lead by Glenn Singleton, CEO of Pacific Educational Group, and included staff from Transportation, IT, Human Resources, Finance, Business, Payroll, Nutrition, Facilities, Personalized Learning and Security.

SPPS Operations plays a significant role in guiding the transformation of the beliefs and behaviors of operational support staff, many of whom work closely with students. Leaders must create safe environments where Operations staff feel encouraged, supported, and expected to examine and challenge their harmful assumptions about the abilities and potential of students-, families-, colleagues-, and communities-of-color.

Topics included:

  • multiple perspectives
  • practicing the protocol
  • leading from equity
    personal, professional, and organizational goals.

Support staff in these departments are also taking part in a one-day training on providing customer service through an equity lens. Over 55 staff members attended an October 18 session, conversing on:

  • effective customer service
  • tools to work with clients, staff, and customers
  • an introduction to the Courageous Conversation protocol and SPPS racial equity policy.
