Writing contest available to students in grades K-3
The PBS KIDS Writers Contest encourages children in grades K-3 in communities across the country to celebrate the power of creating stories and illustrations by submitting their own original pieces. Each student who enters receives a certificate of participation, and all participants and their families are invited to a free celebration with PBS KIDS on tpt at the Mall of America on May 3rd. School representatives or individual teachers can request Writers Contest packets (including forms in Spanish, Hmong or Somali) by email at or by calling 651-229-1118. TPT hopes to top last year’s participation from SPPS K-3 classrooms! 

Third Annual Special Education Family Resource Fair
Families of children who receive Special Education services are invited to attend the Special Education Family Resource Fair on Friday, March 7. There will be information regarding camps, activities, community resources and employment for youth with disabilities. Download the flyer.

Job posting: S-Term administrative internship
Applications are now being accepted for unpaid Summer Term (S-Term) administrative intern positions in the Office of Alternative Education. This is an unpaid position but is a great opportunity to gain administrative experience and gain clinical hours toward administrative licensure. All candidates must be actively enrolled in an administrative licensure program at an accredited college or university. Learn more.

Job postings: OAE Summer Term Pre-Session Building Coordinators
Elementary staff are encouraged to apply for pre-session building coordinator positions in the Office of Alternative Education (OAE) for S-Term 2014. The coordinator will be responsible for preparing school buildings for S-Term 2014 from mid-February – June 9, 2014. View the job postings for elementary, middle and high school coordinators.

Need childcare for spring break? Discovery Club is here for you!
Discovery Club's non-school day childcare is available to all SPPS employees, even if your child does not attend SPPS schools. Registration is now open at five non-school day locations: Battle Creek, EXPO, J.J. Hill, Rondo, and St. Anthony Park. The fee is $42 per day per child (plus the $15 registration fee, good through summer 2014) and includes breakfast, a snack and field trips. Children must bring a bag lunch. Non-school day childcare is available from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the following dates:
