Automated External Defibrillators (AED)
Each SPPS building will have a minimum of two Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) by the end of September: a wall mounted unit near the front office area and a portable unit generally kept in the nurse's or athletic office. AEDs help diagnose and treat life-threatening cardiac problems by providing an electrical shock.

Training on AED use will be provided throughout the year. Day and night engineers, the school nurse and a front office representative should all take the training; anyone who is interested is welcome to attend. More information on training will be forthcoming.

If you have any questions regarding the AED Plan, please contact the Facilities Department One Stop at 651-744-1800.

New Hand Soap
This school year the Facilities Department will be introducing a new hand soap product district-wide, called Light 'n’ Foamy. Light 'n’ Foamy product highlights include:

  • Uses .7 ml less soap per pump compared to the old soap
  • A refillable soap dispenser with less packaging and product waste
  • Green Seal Certification

Over the next three months, the Facilities Department will be transitioning all buildings to the new hand soap. If you have any questions regarding Light 'n’ Foamy, please contact the Facilities Department’s One Stop at 651-744-1800.

Use of General Cleaners and Disinfectants
Beginning this fall, your school will have new ways to keep its facilities cleaner and students safer, all while reducing waste. SPPS no longer uses products containing potentially harmful chemicals, including disinfecting wipes, hand sanitizers and other cleaners. Instead, we will provide classrooms with effective cleaning solutions that are safe and mild.

The district will ensure each classroom has clearly labeled bottles of premixed cleaning solution provided by the building engineer. These can be refilled at any time.

Please help us with this transition by not bringing items that clean, deodorize, sanitize or disinfect into the school. If a student or staff person brings such supplies, the item should be removed or returned immediately.

For more information, contact the Environmental Services Group at or 651-744-1800.

Bulb Replacement for Interactive White Boards (IWBs) and Fixed Projectors
If your wall- or ceiling-mounted projectors (including IWBs - but not including free-standing projectors) need replacement bulbs, the Facilities Department will provide a contractor to do the work. However, school sites are responsible for the cost of the bulbs and will have to provide their budget codes. Contact your building’s head engineer and he or she will enter a request via a Facilities Department work order.

Tutor Opportunities
The Minnesota Reading and Math Corps are still looking for full-time tutors. If someone you know has availability during regular school hours and enjoys working with students, please direct them to for more information.
