School staff: Prepare for Give to the Max Day on November 14
Has your school designated an administrator for your fundraising page on GiveMN.org? Each school already has an online fundraising page on the site -- now is the time to personalize it with photos, video and messaging that will really speak to your community. To gain administrative access to your school’s page, contact brandi.cavalletti@spps.org, 651-767-8181. Be sure to visit GiveMN.org for how-to information and customizable templates you can send home, post on your Facebook page, etc.

School staff: Encourage students to apply for Prudential Spirit awards
Now through November 5, students in grades 5-12 may apply for Prudential Spirit of Community Awards if they have made meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service within the past 12 months. The application is available at http://spirit.prudential.comLearn more.

Principals and supervisors: Identify Community Giving coordinators
On November 18, we kick off this year's Community Giving Campaign. The campaign is a way to support the many community organizations that provide services to students and are actively involved in our schools. These partners help us create strong schools and strong communities. We are looking for site coordinators to help make this the most successful campaign ever and show how Saint Paul Public Schools truly are committed to helping the whole child. Please forward the name of your site coordinator to Maureen Hartung at mhartung@communitysharesmn.org as soon as possible. View the memo for complete details.

Principals and clerks: Follow new Connect5 guidelines
We know that different school communities respond differently to various communication methods and frequency. But some of our parents are overburdened with automated telephone calls from schools and the district.

Please review new guidelines and new texting features, and share this information with your school's designated Connect 5 messenger.

Principals, clerks and counselors: Review new and transferred student registrations
If a new student is assigned to your school, you will receive an email in your Lotus Notes Enrollment Group alerting you of the change in School View. Please visit School View at  sms1314.placement.spps.org to review student information. Then, visit Campus to ensure the student's start date is correct or mark the student as a no-show if appropriate.

Student Placement Center staff will continue to enter Campus enrollments for new and returning students. Campus enrollments for students transferring from one SPPS school to another should be entered by school staff.

Please contact Jayné Williams at 651-632-3722 for assistance with School View access.

Principals and clerks: Register for School Choice Fair before November 1
The School Choice Fair will be held Saturday, January 11, 2014. For more information read the welcome letter and complete the registration form. The deadline to register is Friday, November 1, 2013.

If you have questions about booth logistics contact kathy.weyandt@spps.org.

Clerks: Request winter clothing donations for students
Every year, the Marvelous Mitten Makers donate their time, skill and yarn to make sure SPPS students who can’t afford winter clothing have warm hats, mittens, scarves, and headbands.

Please fill out the request form by Friday, October 18, to let the volunteers know how many items to make for your school. Keep in mind that only students who cannot afford winter clothing will receive donations. Once you have completed the form, click on [Finish] at the bottom of the page and your information will be submitted.

Items will be delivered to your school at the end of this month.

If you have any questions about the Marvelous Mitten Makers, if you would like to donate yarn (they always need more), or if your students would like to send thank you notes to the many wonderful volunteers (they really appreciate it), please contact:
